Welcome. To those of you I know: Good to see you again. To those of you I don't: Nice to meet you. I'll use this space to rant about anything that happens to pique my interest, let you know about things I'm reading or watching, and just generally let you in on my view of whatever I happen to be thinking about at any particular time.

In looking up info on the lake district in Wikipedia (because I know very little about the lake district) I came across this little tidbit:
"There is only one true lake in the Lake District, Bassenthwaite Lake. All the others such as Windermere, Coniston Water, Ullswater and Buttermere are meres and waters, with mere being the least common and water being the most common. The major lakes and reservoirs in the National Park are given below."
Apparently, I have no idea what a mere or water is and how they might possibly differ from a lake. I've certainly read the term mere in books like The Lord of the Rings trilogy. But I always just assumed they meant lake or pond.
